Hatchet 3 is Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as well as his violent murderous rampage. Kane Hodder portrays Victor Crowley while Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanbilt plays Misty.
The film's special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.
Kane Hodder is a standout among the cast, and he's an intimidating villain. It's like a slasher film from the 1980s, with the dialogue being a bit too tongue-in-cheek and campy. There are also certain moments of genuine comedy throughout that provide comedic contrast against all of the gut-wrenching action on screen.
Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most locations used are re-used from earlier films in the series. The identical boat house was featured twice in the film and a lot of the film appears to be a re-use from previous films in the (click now to see vids) series. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which could result in the movie feeling too familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was a excellent series overall. There was plenty of gory thrills, and there were some great performances from the actors.
